The Certificate in Solution Focused Therapy provides a comprehensive exploration of this highly effective, evidence-based approach, which has gained increasing recognition for its pragmatic and collaborative focus on clients’ strengths and resources. While Solution Focused Brief Therapy is often employed as an enhancement to existing therapeutic models, it also offers a credible alternative in its own right, with distinctive techniques that predate and complement CBT, while drawing clear parallels with Systemic and Client Centred traditions. Participants will develop both a theoretical understanding and practical skillset in applying Solution Focused methods across a wide range of clinical settings, enabling them to work with clarity, efficiency, and creativity in supporting meaningful change.
The Certificate in Solution Focused Therapy offers a comprehensive grounding in this strengths-based, future-oriented model, which can enhance existing therapeutic approaches or stand alone as an effective alternative. Drawing on techniques that predate CBT yet align closely with both Systemic and Client Centred traditions, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) equips practitioners to work with clarity, efficiency, and creativity.
The course explores applications across a wide range of clinical settings, including work with adolescents, where the focus on resilience and achievable goals is particularly effective, and with autistic clients, where the model’s adaptability supports communication and engagement. It also addresses the use of SFBT with complex trauma, demonstrating how resource-based, forward-looking methods can complement trauma-focused interventions while respecting clients’ lived experiences.
Attention is also given to the use of SFBT in clinical supervision, where its constructive, reflective framework helps supervisees gain confidence, identify strengths, and develop creative solutions.
In addition, the course examines its application in addressing work stress and burnout, showing how Solution Focused approaches can sustain resilience and well-being in demanding professional contexts. By the end of the programme, practitioners will have both a solid theoretical foundation and a practical skillset for integrating Solution Focused Therapy into diverse areas of practice.
