Mindfulness provides the key linking theme within both skills training in DBT and all Third Wave CBT approaches - representing both a state of being as well as a technique. This two-day course provides delegates with practice opportunities of different types of mindfulness, and outlines the context within which different Third Wave approaches incorporate and conceptualise mindfulness: from Compassionate Mindfulness, through Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy to developing mindfulness as an alternative skill to emotional avoidance.

During the course of the two days, delegates will not only understand and practice different types of mindfulness exercises that they can incorporate into their work but also address a range of practical questions and problems that inevitably arise when using this approach with clients.

Questions include:

  • managing resistant clients;
  • handling client concerns about mindfulness;
  • the use of mindfulness with different client groups;
  • dispelling mindfulness myths;
  • the practicalities of running mindfulness groups;
  • the degree to which practitioners need to be skilled in mindfulness practice before teaching others.
