The theoretical foundations of PGDT will also be explored, including the Dual Process Model of coping with bereavement and the contribution of attachment and self-determination theories. The practical issue will be addressed of how PGDT helps individuals gradually accept the reality of their loss while maintaining a meaningful and continuing bond with the person who has died.

The workshop will examine how memories work, reconnecting with rewarding activities and returning to personally important values can help individuals rebuild wellbeing and a sense of purpose in a life changed by loss. PGDT draws on elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI)
