Private Counselling in the Age of AI: Hopes and Horrors

1 day 12:00pm – 1:00pm 1 CPD hour

Course Brief

‘Private Counselling in the Age of AI: Hopes and Horrors’ is a practical one-hour workshop for private practitioners exploring the opportunities, challenges, and ethical questions raised by artificial intelligence. As AI increasingly influences marketing, administration, client support, and even therapeutic conversations, counsellors and therapists need to make informed decisions about its use. This interactive session offers a balanced discussion of the potential benefits and risks of AI in private practice, helping participants navigate this rapidly changing landscape with confidence and professional integrity.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the landscape of private practice. From marketing and administration to clinical note-taking, supervision support, and even AI-powered therapeutic conversations, practitioners are increasingly faced with opportunities and dilemmas that would have seemed unimaginable only a few years ago.

This interactive one-hour workshop is designed specifically for counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, and other professionals working in private practice. Together, we will explore both the potential benefits and the genuine concerns surrounding AI in therapeutic work. What tasks can AI assist with effectively? Where are the ethical, legal, and professional boundaries? How might AI influence client expectations, confidentiality, record-keeping, and the future role of the therapist?

Rather than taking a purely optimistic or pessimistic position, this workshop aims to provide a balanced and practical discussion of the realities facing practitioners today. Participants will have the opportunity to consider emerging trends, reflect on their own use of technology, and discuss how to navigate this rapidly evolving landscape with confidence and professional integrity.

The workshop is included free of charge for all students of the SDS Private Practice Certificate and is also open to other practitioners for a small registration fee.

This course can be taken as a follow up to the Certificate in Private Practice

As an independent course.
